comdotwebnetmobi.tv ($100,000)
This morning I received an offer to purchase one of the domain names that I own. Being a person with a million ideas coupled with relative inaction, I tend to accumulate these things. So abodenode.com, a would-be home for an apartment finder type website, is on the bidding block! The would-be buyer, in a kick-the-tires bid, offered $100. The email said I needed to head over to GoDaddy.com in order to negotiate, so after registration I was able to enter in a counter offer, which I did off the top of my head: $5,000. However, after looking at the other domains currently up for sale and viewable, thankfully, by you and I, I’m thinking I could have 1) asked for much more, and 2) found a new hobby.
Apparently how it works if you pay a small amount each month so you can list your websites for sale, along with an asking price. From there, it’s an auction. There are some classic categories, I guess, if you’re trying to sell a domain. First, you could try to come up with a sexy domain: officeboobs.com (asking price $10,000 / 0 bids) or forbiddenhotties.com ($50,000 / 0 bids). Or, a possible sex-related domain: widespread.com ($10,000 / 1 bid), yougavemeanstd.com ($29,999 / 0 bids). This one I hope is about golf: get-in-the-hole.com ($49,999, 0 bids).
Political domains abound around election time, where Obama seems to be way ahead of McCain in popularity by an approximate 5:1 ratio: barackspeaks.com can be had for $10k, bidenobama.com for $50k, and this misspelling can be had for a bargain: barckobama.net for only $249. There seems to be some Obama fear as much as McCain support: pleasenotobama.com ($249), justsaynotoobama.com ($10k), donotelectobama.com ($25k). Even some curious proposals: mccainnowgore2012.com ($39k).
Given the popularity of both porn domains as well as political domains, I’m wishing I didn’t let one expire that I registered for the DeVos gubernatorial run in Michigan. I really could have done well with ifyoulikebush.com.
A good domain name states the purpose of the website. That’s why I’m hoping I get something out of abodenode.com someday, and that’s why I also like the succinctness of this one: kidsaprons.com. I just can’t afford $15,000 right now.

UPDATE
After much haggling, abodenode.com was sold through an escrow company called EscrowDNS, whose customer service was extremely prompt (“message sent from an iPhone”) if not friendly, for $2,150.
